Legacy

Something dawned on me today. In this generation, parents seem to be very much preoccupied on how to save, save, save... So that in the future, they may give their children an inheritance in the form of wealth or possessions. But, my heart believes that the most important inheritance we can give them is not money nor material things - it is our faith, a life fully surrendered to God. So, as for me, I will pass on my relationship with God to my children - that is the legacy that I want to leave. But how?

I think there's nothing wrong with the intention of leaving material possessions to our children. What just makes it less desirable is, sometimes, we tend to neglect our children. Instead of giving our undivided attention and guidance to them, we become so busy to the extent that we are lacking quality time with them. (Ouch! I'm guilty!) Or what's worse, we become disillusioned. We might think that as long as we have a lot of money for them, house(s) for them, business(es) for them... that's enough.

I don't claim to be an expert on that field. It's so easy to say that this is the legacy I want to leave. But our children are watching our lives. They are looking at our actions, they hear every word we say, they witness our attitudes. They imitate our values. We are their role models. So, we must be responsible. These values  that we want to instill to them - these should be seen not from anywhere... not from the playground, nor from the TV... not from Facebook nor from the ipad... but from us. So, it's time to be a better "us". Often times, we will fail. But, let us also show them, that even though we commit mistakes, we are correcting them. We can show them how to rise up every time we fall. However, let us not forget to balance everything. If they see our failures, they should see our victories too! I know you know what am I mean.

Daddy GOD, we are asking for Your divine guidance. Help us to leave an incorruptible legacy to our children. Help us to be more like You. So, as our children look unto us, they will see Jesus in our lives.
