Ginisang Sardinas (Sauteed Sardines)

Oh how I love canned sardines. It's my favorite canned good! I love it straight from the can, poured over white,  hot steamed rice with the squeeze of some calamansi juice or sauteed for additional flavor. It's easy and does not require a lot of time. It's a nice dish whenever you're busy. Plus the fact that sardines is healthy! For the recipe, please see below:

Ingredients:


1 155g or small can sardines in tomato sauce (with or without chili)
3 cloves of garlic, crushed
1/4 small size onion, chopped coarsely
1/4 small size onion, chopped lengthwise
1 small size tomato chopped
1 tbsp soy sauce 
1 tbsp cooking oil
1 tsp lemon or calamansi juice
3 tbsps water
salt and pepper to taste
spring onion / kinchay / flat leaf parsley for garnishing (optional)

Cooking Procedure:

  1. Heat the cooking oil in a pan.
  2. Sauté the garlic and onion and tomato
  3. Add the soy sauce and sardines in tomato sauce.
  4. Cook for 5 minutes in low to medium heat. Add water.
  5. Add the lemon or calamansi juice
  6. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir and cook for one minute more.
  7. Turn off heat and then transfer to a serving bowl or plate. Garnish with chopped spring onion / kinchay / flat leaf parsley.
  8. Serve with steamed white rice. Enjoy!

Serve with hot, steamed rice
