Amazing Grace

Every single night when I put my baby to sleep, I am humming my favorite song to him. And I pray, as my fingers run through his hair, that he would grow learning about its powerful message. If you are wondering about the song in my previous post, here it is:

Amazing Grace

(John Newton, 1725–1807)

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

I.dearly.love.the.song - every word in it. I love to read it. I love to sing it. I love to hum it. "Amazing Grace" always reminds me how God unconditionally loves and accepts me... us... despite of all our sins, shortcomings, wrongdoings, crooked ways and shameful acts. Despite that we curse Him. Despite that we abandon Him.

Whenever guilt, shame and self-condemnation are attacking me, this song never fails to take me back to His feet. And He would lift me up, and cover me with His arms. Oh the warmth of His embrace! How precious we are in His sight. Oh how He treasures us without measure – pouring us with all the forgiveness, acceptance and love, showering us with strength, gifts and blessings for us to enjoy though we are not worthy, not even one of those things. Isn’t that amazing?

I want to listen to the song again... and again and again...

Here are the two versions. Enjoy!

Celtic Woman

Rhema, 7 years old

How I love the simplest version - that annointed, prayer-like version that doesn't showcase the singer's voice nor her skill... that version which is just so humble and pure, that version that will just leave one soul praising her Savior. That version is my version. That version is your version. Let us sing to Him in adoration.
